About the project

Inspired by my kid's toys and my love for space exploration, this project came to be.  It was also a great excuse to practice UV mapping.

When it was time to get going on the project, I did something that we don't always get to do in this line of work.  I jumped in the car and drove an hour and a half to go and visit the brewery.  After a very nice tour of their operation, I was able to get a strong sense of the process and work that goes into brewing beer.  Being present on site was a huge advantage and in the end it enabled me to personalize the project to Blindman Brewing.  Instead of researching online and looking up photos of the equipment, I got to see the actual stuff they use and meet the friendly people that work there.  After that, I sat down and did some sketches to get a feel for how I would like this to look and then jumped into 3D and got to work building the world.

Blindman Brewing

Project: Blindman Brewing

my role:  Creative Director, Design, Animation

Welcome to world of Blindman Brewing in sunny Lacombe, Alberta.  During the height of the COVID pandemic I was approached by Blindman Brewing to help them create a virtual tour of their operation.  Instead of taking a total literal approach to how things go, we went with a fun, edu-tainment approach that would grab visitors attention and get them to explore all of the details that make their brewery great.

The final piece was integrated on their website where users can interact with seven key areas of the brewery.  Check it out HERE

Visual Development

Below are some different visual explorations for the building, characters and equipment.  This part of the process was really fun - it makes it feel like it is coming to life.  My goal was to make the world a miniature-like place that you could reach out and touch.  Everything was modeled to small scale, like a Lego or Playmobil set.  That combined with the right camera lens and depth of field helps to achieve that look.

Final Project

After 3 months of work - here is the final result.  7 looping animations and 1 main page image that Blindman used for their main navigation page for this virtual tour.   And, if you have made it this far - thanks for going on my tour of how this project was made.
